Looker, 1850. First Edition. Original gilt-decorated cloth; duodecimo 
(4-3/4" x 7-1/2"), 239 pages. Illustrated with a frontispiece view of 
Blennerhassett's mansion. Howes S-12; New Howes S-13 "b". The first 
attempt by this early expert to unravel the Burr-Wilkinson Conspiracy. 
General James Wilkinson, the Commanding General of the United States 
Army and the first Governor of Upper Louisiana Territory, was also a spy 
for Spain and was used as a double agent by President Thomas Jefferson. 
The conspiracy between Wilkinson and Aaron Burr, hatched in 1805, was to 
lead a private, armed expedition of more than a thousand men into Mexico 
and establish a new government there, with themselves at the head of it. 
Also much information on Ohio, West Virginia, etc. Rebacked with 
original endpapers and backstrip which was replaced upside down. Very
