Jerome, Saint. DIVI HIERONYMI IN VITAS PATRUM... Lyon: Jacobo Huguetan. 1512. Lg. 4to. ff.(6),CLXXIX,(1). Complete with the final leaf with large printer's device on verso, recto blank. Double column text. Title printed in red & black with a 2" x 3" woodcut of Saint Jerome in his study. Numerous large and small woodcut initials throughout. Original binding of blind tooled pigskin spine over oak boards. Lacking fore-edge clasps. Bottom of spine a bit chipped. Remnants of off-white paint on spine. An unidentified red wax 1" round seal on lower blank portion of title. Final leaf torn at lower outer blank corner. Name inked out on title. Overall, a quite decent copy in its original binding.    $2,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
Jerome's "Lives of the Fathers" was written in the 4th century; it is a study of early monasticism, specifically regarding the desert fathers, St. Paul, St. Malchus and St. Hilarion. This edition not in Adams. BL French STC p. 240. Baudrier XI pp. 287-288.
