Sir Roger L'Estrange (translator and editor): The Works of Flavius Josephus. Translated into English... To which are Prefix'd Two Discourses, and several Remarks and Observations upon Josephus. Together with New Maps, Sculptures, and Accurate Indexes. The second edition. London: Printed by W. B. for Richard Sare, at Gray's-Inn-Gate in Holborn, 1709. Three volumes, 8vo (20.5 cm), in early/period paneled calf, rebacked in later but not recent calf elaborately tooled in gilt with gilt-lettered morocco labels, gilt-tooled Wharncliffe arms (“Avito Viret Honore”) on the front board of each volume; continuous pagination: 1878 + [66] pp.; with five folding engraved plates and maps. ESTC T106247.

L'Estrange's last major work, completed by him in 1702 when he was 86 years old. Includes a large, handsome plan of Jerusalem. Bound without the frontispiece in vol. I. Bindings with some bumping and wear to the corners and edges, one spine label chipped; text blocks a bit musty, with scattered mostly light spotting and browning, a few short tears at the edges and folds of the engravings, one map with a closed 3” tear in the margin. One volume with the engraved armorial bookplate of J. A. Stuart Wortley [1st Baron Wharncliffe]; all three volumes with the later armorial bookplates of Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, Earl of Wharncliffe.
