Captain Henry M[ontague] Hozier: The British Expedition to Abyssinia : Compiled from Authentic Documents. London: Macmillan and Co., 1869. First edition; 8vo (21.5 cm) in modern quarter morocco, spine titles in gilt, new endpapers; xi, [1], 271, [1], 53, [3] pp.; with the half-title, publisher's catalogue bound in at the rear, dated May, 1869.

An eyewitness account of Sir Robert Napier's campaign in Abyssinia, a punitive expedition which ended successfully with the capture of the fortress of Magdala and the freeing of several European missionaries and diplomats taken hostage by the Ethiopian emperor Tewodros II. The author, Henry M. Hozier, was a military secretary to Lord Napier, and father of Clementine Hozier, the future wife of Winston Churchill.

Book is in Near Fine condition: a few light spots to the first and last leaves, else very clean, crisp and fresh, firmly bound.
