Mrs. Cecil Clementi: Through British Guiana to the Summit of Roraima. London: T. Fisher Unwin, (1920). FIRST EDITION; 8vo (19.5 cm) in original publisher's green buckram titled in gilt and blind; 236 + [36] pp.; half-title and publisher's catalog, photographic plates, folding map.

A nice fresh copy of the intrepid Mrs. Clementi's account of a journey undertaken with her husband, a colonial administrator, from Holmia in British Guiana (present-day Guyana) to Mount Roraima in Venezuela. Their forty-three day adventure took them along the Demara, Essequibo and Potaro Rivers, and into unmapped border areas of Brazil and Venezuela. Binding with bumping to the bottom fore-corners, light rubbing to the extremities; offsetting to the title-page from the tissue guard, a few leaves rough at the fore-edges from hasty opening, else unusually clean and fresh. Front paste-down with the bookplate of the Steve Fossett Collection of Adventure & Exploration. Fossett (1944-2007), avid bibliophile, adventurer, record-holding sailor, aviator and aeronaut, was the first person to complete a solo nonstop circumnavigation of the globe in a balloon.
