quarto (7" x 10-1/2") volumes bound in later 3/4 burgundy morocco 
leather and red cloth with gilt rules, gilt-decorated and lettered 
spines with three raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. 
Original edition of this important catalog raisonné of the Louvre under 
the Empire, published by the engraver Antoine-Michel Filhol and 
dedicated to Napoleon I. Illustrated with 720 exquisite copper 
engravings, nearly all protected by tissue guards. Scattered foxing, 
more to the text than to the plates. Chipping to heads and feet of some 
spines; rubbing to raised bands; edgewear; bindings worn at hinges with 
repairs visible to first volume, both boards of the tenth volume
