[Plato]. PHEDON: OR, A DIALOGUE OF THE IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL.. [with the "Crito"]. London: M. Cooper. (1755). 12mo. viii,142,(2)pp. With the fine frontispiece portrait of Plato (not mentioned in the ESTC), and the final leaf of ads. Orig. polished calf, red morocco spine label. Copper engraved 18th century "Kinnard" bookplate. A lovely copy.                           $1,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
This is the first separately printed English translation of the Phedon (Phaedo) Plato's dialogue on the immortality of the soul. It was first included in the London 1675 edition of "Plato His Apology for Socrates..." It is surprisingly a very rare book; ESTC records only 1 American holding (Cornell) and 3 in England. OCLC adds two more American holdings (Oberlin & Fordham).
