(LEAF BOOKS) Heaney, Howell J.  THREE LIONS AND THE CROSS OF LORRAINE. Bartholomaeus Anglicus, John of Trevisa, John Tate, Wynkyn de Worde, and De Proprietatibus Rerum. A Leaf Book with Essays by Howell Heaney, Dr. Lotte Hellinga, Dr. Richard Hills. Newtown, PA: Bird & Bull Press. 1992. Folio. 40,(2),(2)pp. Text printed in red & black. Plus 19 facsimile leaves with large woodcut illustrations. Bound in at rear is a vinyl sleeve holding an original double column leaf from "De Proprietatibus Rerum" printed by Wynkyn de Worde in 1495 or early 1496. Edition limited to 138 copies, this is #6. Red morocco, black leather spine label, over decorative boards. Fine.                   $2,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
"De Proprietatibus Rerum" is the first book to be printed on paper made in England.  An extremely rare book, the last copy to sell at auction was a defective copy in 1938!  If a copy appeared today it would likely sell for $250,000 or more?  The leaf in this copy is very fine, with no soiling.  DISBOUND AND DISPERSED, #200. This book was sold out upon publication.
