O'NEILL. [New Haven]: Yale University Press, [1956]. First Edition.
Original marbled wrappers sewn, unopened, printed front cover label.
Printed for Carlotta Monterey O'Neill by her friends at the Yale
University Press. Eugene O'Neill's tribute to his beloved Dalmation,
Silverdene Emblem O'Neill, nicknamed "Blemie." O'Neill wrote this piece
on 26 December 1940, a bit more than a week after Blemie's death, in an
effort to assuage the grief of his wife Carlotta. This copy is INSCRIBED
and SIGNED by Carlotta filling the front endpaper: "For/William A.
Young/This cannot be bought--/only I can give it/to you--which gives/me
great pleasure./It is one of the most/charming things/O'Neill
wrote--/Carlotta Monterey O'Neill/Feb. 1966." Laid in is a 7" x 4-3/4"
original photograph of Eugene O'Neill lying on the ground with Blemie in
a happier time. On the verso of the photograph, Carlotta has written:
"Eugene O'Neill & 'Blemie'--/Eaton's Neck--Long Island/summer --
1931/'Mourning Becomes Electra' was/produced in New York that Fall."
Tape stain in the gutter of the front free endpaper likely where the
photograph was laid in. Faint indentations from paperclips to the
