Two volumes bound in one; 8vo (21.5 cm) in early/period polished calf; xl, 154 pp.; 323, [6] pp.; with the publisher's adverts, 7 engraved folding plates, including the folding map frontispiece (complete). First octavo edition of the English translation of Norden's travels through Egypt and Sudan which first appeared in French in 1752-55. An important early European account of the region, with much on the pyramids, Luxor, descriptions of Cairo and Alexandria, etc. Binding with bumping and wear to the extremities, front joint cracked but secure; contents with mild toning and occasional light soiling and spotting; one plate with old tape repair to the verso, small red stain on title-page; else quite clean and sound, firmly bound.
