A High-Church Tory attack on dissenters, Presbyterians, Cromwell-lovers and other "Republican" riff-raff, generally attributed to Ned Ward (1667-1731), tavern-keeper, satirist and social observer. "[Ward] wrote with no literary pretensions, although the wit is real, the satire often sharp, and the picture of life in the London of Queen Anne's time is vividly brought to life in his pages" (Kunitz-Haycraft). Mild toning and occasional light spotting and foxing to the leaves, some browning to the first and last leaves, area of worming to the upper corner of the early leaves, not affecting any text, otherwise clean and sound.
