The scarce First Issue with the suppressed engraving at page 42. Folio 
(10-1/2" x 13-1/4") bound in elaborately gilt-decorated full black 
morocco leather, all edges gilt. A handsome edition of this classic in 
the original German language with an engraved title page and 36 
full-page steel engravings by Wilhelm von Kaulbach. Occasional spot of 
foxing, stain at the bottom margin of a few pages at the middle with 
little effect on image or text. Attractive binding virtually unworn.
