Mid-19th C. Courses in Chemistry & Materia Medica Oversized Business
Card.
Lawrence Turnbull, chemist & physician, was born in Scotland in 1821 and
emigrated to America at age 12. A graduate of the Philadelphia College
of Pharmacy and Jefferson Medical College, he was a lecturer on
Technical Chemistry at the Franklin Institute, served as resident
physician at the Blockley Hospital in Philadelphia, worked at Western
Clinical Infirmary and served during the Civil War in Emory Hospital and
at Fortress Monroe; in 1878 he became a surgeon at Jefferson Hospital.
Dr. Turnbull wrote and lectured extensively and, as we see here, also
gave lessons, presumably early in his long career.
Clay-coated-stock card. 5”x3.5”. Some soil, some edge darkening on the
back. [48624] $150
