Act: Translated From the French of Oscar Wilde: Pictured by Aubrey
Beardsley. London & Boston: Elkin Mathews & John Lane / Copeland &
Day. 1894. First English and First Illustrated Edition, limited to
500 copies. Small quarto (8 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches; 216 x 157 mm.). Bound
in the publisher's full rough blue canvas boards, gilt, stamped on
both upper & lower covers with a design by Beardsley, spine titled in
gilt. (i-xii), pp (1) - (68); + [16] pp catalogue "List of Books in
Belles Lettres" Dated January 1894 bound in at rear. With 10 full
page illustrations and one final vignette, plus illustrated title
page, all by Beardsley. Printed on smooth wove paper, all edges
uncut. Spine panel gently tanned, and with very slight wear to the
cloth along the rear spine hinge and at spine head. Corner tips
slightly rolled. One plate starting to come loose but holding. A very
good to near fine copy, complete, genuine and unrestored. A stunning

half-title, reverse with "Of this edition 500 copies have been

illustrated title page, reverse with "Edinburgh: T. and A. Constable,
Printers to Her Majesty on verso v-vi); (1 leaf, dedication leaf "To
My Friend Lord Alfred Bruce Douglas The Translator of my Play",
reverse blank, vii-viii); (1 leaf, The Persons of the Play, reverse
blank, ix-x); (1 leaf, "List of the Pictures by Aubrey Beardsley",
reverse blank, xi-xii); pp (10 - (68), (67) with small vignette by
Beardsley; (68) with Printer's Imprint in 3 lines with the date
MDCCCXCIV below; 9 Full-Page black & white plates by Beardsley (in
addition to the frontispiece) inserted throughout the text, being
"The Peacock Skirt" at pp. 2 "The Black Cape" at pp. 8; "A Platonic
Lament "at pp. 16; "Enter Herodias" at pp. 24; "The Eyes of Herod" at
pp. 32; "The Stomach Dance" at pp. 40; "The Toilet of Salome" at pp.

the [16] pp publisher's catalogue bound in at rear, dated January,
