ROWE, Jeremiah. AMERICAN MANUSCRIPT OF SURVEYING. Brentwood [NH], 1799. 
First Edition. A handwritten manuscript surveying book dated 13 June 
1799 by Jeremiah Rowe of Brentwood, NH. Bound in sewn gray heavy 
handmade paper (6" x 8") with 52 pages of text plus the covers with a 
number of hand-drawn geometrical designs. It begins: "then put it upon 
record that I learnt to survey Last December I learnt of Thomas Kimball 
at the School house by Mr. J. Prescott in Brentwood it took about a 
fortnight in the coldest winter and longest that ever was known. 
Likewise I went to singing School kept by Jonas Norris of Raymond." 
About the first half of the book is devoted to Geometrical Problems and 
the last half to Surveying. Rowe was an original subscriber to Ezekiel 
Little's THE USHER published in Exeter, also in 1799. Brentwood was 
officially separated from Exeter and incorporated in 1742. Some foxing 
to covers but in excellent, original condition. (#019563)        $350
