CARTER, Jimmy. TYPED LETTER SIGNED (TLS). Washington DC, 25 May 1978. On
White House stationery (6-3/4" x 8-7/8") SIGNED as "Jimmy" to Senator
Henry Bellman thanking him for his support on the arms sale vote and how
it will promote peace in the Middle East. Short months after this letter
was written, Carter successfully mediated a peace agreement between
Egypt and Israel. The Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian
President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin on 17
September 1978 leading to the Nobel Peace Prize being granted to Sadat
and Begin. Carter won the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize in large part to his
