- 1798. First Edition. Four duodecimo (3-1/4" x 5-1/4") volumes in 
contemporary speckled calf leather with gilt rules, marbled endpapers, 
and decorated gilt spines with matching gilt-lettered morocco spine 
labels, all edges gilt; total of 856 pages. Illustrated with 31 
engravings and 5 vignettes in the text. A collection of 21 travel 
memoirs and extracts, some published for the first time, edited by 
Pierre La Mésangère with biographical notes and commentary. With a fine 
provenance: The front pastedown in each volume with the small bookplate 
of Louis-Francois Delapchier à Riom and each front endpaper with the 
bookplate of Philip Hofer, the renowned American authority on 
illustrated and decorated books and the founder and first curator of the 
Department of Printing and Graphic Arts for the Houghton Library at 
Harvard University. Minor rubbing to the spine edges and corners but
