HAWTHORNE, Nathaniel. THE SCARLET LETTER. New York: Limited Editions 
Club, 1941. Octavo (6-1/4" x 9-3/8") bound in full scarlet-stained 
sheepskin with a large red letter "A" set off on black leather 
surrounded by a gilt design on the front cover and a gilt-stamped black 
leather spine label. Introduction by Dorothy Canfield. Illustrated with 
lithographs drawn on the stone by Henry Varnum Poor and pulled by George 
Miller. Copy #559 of 1500 SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page. 
Very slight rubbing to spine tips. Just about Fine in similar slipcase 
and very uncommon in this condition. (#019562)        $500
