Vail was the great American bibliographer and scholar who saw Sabin's "Bibliotheca Americana" to its completion. He was head librarian of the American Antiquarian Society 1930-1939. Eames was the bibliographer of American history at the NYPL and was known as "The Dean of American Bibliographers."
