GRANT, Ulysses S. PERSONAL MEMOIRS OF U. S. GRANT. New York: Charles L.
Webster & Company, 1885 & 1886. First Edition. Two volumes in the
apparently most uncommon binding for this title: full sheep leather with
marbled endpapers and edges, contrasting gilt-lettered morocco spine
labels. With 49 maps and illustrations, including two steel-engraved
frontispiece portraits and two etched views, all with tissue-guards, as
well as holograph facsimiles of Grant's writing. With 1886 ink ownership
signatures of J. W. Fuller on the versos of both front endpapers. Bright
and clean internally. The hinges of the first volume are weak with
slight give but covers still firmly attached; some fraying to spine
tips. Very Good. (#020276) $600
