[Elizabeth Washington Gamble Wirt:] Flora's Dictionary. By a Lady. Baltimore: Fielding Lucas, 1833. Small 4to (26 cm) in original morocco-backed printed boards, all page edges gilt. Rubbing and edge-wear to the boards and spine, bumping and wear to the corners; front inner hinge cracked but firm, one page-gathering a little pulled and protruding slightly from the text block, a few occasional small spots to the leaves; otherwise clean and sound. Loosely laid in are a small botanical specimen and what appears to be a Victorian-era doily cut from paper.

A rather uncommon early edition of this botanical dictionary, first published in 1829; later editions often included plates. Here, the text is interleaved with blank sheets of various colors, presumably for the writing of notes or the mounting of specimens.
