[Emerson, William]. A SHORT COMMENT ON SIR I. NEWTON'S PRINCIPIA. Containing Notes Upon Some Difficult Places of That Excellent Book. London: J. Nourse. 1770. First edition. 8vo. 157,(3)pp. Errata. The final leaf is ads. With five folding plates, with a total of 71 figures.  In this copy, added at back is a 12 page essay (p. 12 is the errata to this essay)  by William Emerson (circa 1777) titled "Advertisement to the Reader of the Miscellanies" in which he is very unhappy with reviews appearing in the "London Review," etc. Very nicely bound in 20th century speckled half brown morocco over marbled boards.    $850.00 (trade discount allowed)
Also includes (p. 130-138) the author's "Concerning the Optics." Babson. NEWTON #55. The Principia was not translated into English until 1729. An uncommon book. No other copy is currently for sale on-line.
