Vincent Bourne: Miscellaneous Poems: Consisting of Originals and Translations. London: Printed [by William Bowyer and John Nichols] for W. Ginger, in College-Street, Westminster: and sold by J. Dodsley, in Pall-Mall; and E. Johnson, in Ave-Mary-Lane, MDCCLXXII [1772]. First edition thus; 4to (27 cm) in early/period mottled calf, rebacked with the original spine laid down; xvi + 352 pp.; with a list of subscribers. Text in English and Latin. ESTC T101991.

The first edition of this collection, which (according to ESTC) "contains many poems falsely attributed to Bourne." Vincent Bourne (1695-1747) was a master at Westminster School, a classical scholar, translator and Neo-Latin poet whose work was admired by many, including Charles Lamb and William Cowper, a pupil of Bourne's, who wrote: "I love the memory of Vinny Bourne. I think him a better Latin poet than Tibullus, Propertius, Ausonius, or any of the writers in his way except Ovid, and not at all inferior to him."

Binding with bumping and wear to the corners, chipping to the original spine; front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate and ownership signature of the Rev. Jacob H.B. Mountain, and later bookplates of Shadworth H. Hodgson and the Hodgson Bequest to Rugby School Library (no other library marks), endpapers with Rev. Mountain's inscription and three related clippings pasted in; offsetting (browning) to the edges of the first and last few leaves, a few scattered small spots, else very clean and sound, firmly bound.
