The scarcefirst edition of this famous history of the German Reformation. It wasimmediately controversial. The Schaff-Herzog RELIGIOUS ENCYCLOPEDIA states,"Storms of protest arose against it on every side, both Roman Catholic andProtestant." There are 2 issues of this work, VD S6668 (ours) and VDS6669, which differs in having the last leaf numbered 470, and leaf 463 has anerrata printed on the recto. In VD S6668 there are 469 numbered leaves, andleaf 463 is blank (without errata) and not numbered. Rihelius also reprinted this work later in 1555 in 8vo.
