[Georges-Adrien Crapelet, pub.]: Lettres de Henri VIII a Anne Boleyn, publiees d'apres les Originaux de la Bibliotheque du Vatican. Paris: de l'Imprimerie de Crapelet, 1835. Small folio (29 cm) in later, but not recent, three-quarter burgundy morocco and marbled boards, spine tooled and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, top page edges gilt; xiv, [2], 228, [2] pp.; two engraved portraits. Text in French and English.
A handsome production, clearly intended for bibliophiles as much as for fans of King Harry and the second Mrs. Tudor; the final leaf bears a "Note pour les amateurs des livres" describing the different type faces used in the printing. Binding with bumping and wear to the corners and scattered touches of rubbing; some foxing to the first and last leaves, and to and from the plates, most noticeably the portrait of Anne, the text leaves with occasional light spotting, a few light (erasable) penciled notations, else quite clean and fresh, firmly and attractively bound. Front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate of Darwell Stone.
