Ezra from Aardvark, in celebration of the fortuitious sighting of a large black bear right outside the kitchen window, offers this completely unrelated book except to say that like this book by a talented former slave who lived only to the age of 35, bear witness, will make you smile.

Publius Terentius Afer, aka Terentius (Terence), was a Roman African playwright during the Roman Republic, born somewhere between 195 and 185 BCE. His comedies were performed for the first time around 170–160 BC. Terentius Lucanus, a Roman senator, brought Terence to Rome as a slave, educated him and later on, impressed by his abilities, freed him... When he was about the age of 25, Terence travelled to Greece to gather materials for his plays and never returned. It is mostly believed that Terence died during the journey, but this cannot be confirmed. He wrote and exhibited six comedies" The Andrian; The Eunuch; The Self-Tormentor; The Brothers; The Step-Mother; and Phormio. Some were exhibited at the Megalesian Games; the Funeral Games of L. Aemilius Paulus, and The Roman Sports, and a number of them are dedicated to close friends or patrons.
