William Field: Memoirs of the Life, Writings, and Opinions of the Rev. Samuel Parr, LL. D.; with Biographical Notices of Many of His Friends, Pupils, and Contemporaries. London: Henry Colburn, 1828. First edition. Two volumes, 8vo (22 cm), in early/period half calf and marbled boards; portrait frontispieces.

Bindings with some rubbing and edge-wear, one spine with loss to the crown, joints cracked but secure; offsetting from the portrait frontispieces, and from three tickets to a "Dramatic Performance at Ashorne Hut [Warwickshire], 10th November, 1954" loosely laid in; a few scattered spots to the contents, else quite clean and bright, securely bound. Front paste-downs with the early bookseller's ticket of 'John Merridew, Ornamental Stationer, Warwick & Leamington."

Samuel Parr (1747-1825), known as "the Whig Johnson," was a minister, a schoolmaster, a Latin scholar, an influential political pamphleteer, and a prodigious writer of letters to an estimated 1500 separate correspondents. His politics were unshakably reformist and radical, and he was a longtime friend and follower of Charles James Fox.
