Ezra From Aardvark offers this early evening special, for those who might be in and about:

Melville, Herman (Rockwell Kent, Illustrator/Designer). MOBY DICK OR THE WHALE (3 VOLUMES IN
ALUMINUM SLIPCASE). Chicago, IL: The Lakeside Press (R.R. Donnelley and Sons), 1930. First Edition Thus (Deluxe
Limited Edition). Three volumes, bound in black cloth with silver graphics to beveled front boards, ruled in silver, and
somewhat sunned spines. Minimal rubbing to extremities. Lacks original acetate wrappers. Aluminum case (the set has
humorously, if inaccurately been referred to as "Fish in a Can") shows surface scratching, a small`(1/4" sharp gouge) to closed
edge near bottom, and a very slightly nudged corner. Volumes show a bit of shelfwear, but overall, very clean. Volume II
contains many unopened leaves, and Volume III is nearly entirely unopened, with one (3") angled yet closed tear to margin of one
unopened edge, perhaps revealing one attempt to separate the leaves. 280 stunning illustrations by Kent.

A nice, very presentable, and attractively-priced set of what some refer to as the crowning achievement of Twentieth-century book design and illustration, in deluxe and limited edition. Very Good Plus in Good Plus (Aluminum) Slipcase. Hardcover. (#84879) $6,000
When representatives from The Lakeside Press approached the then just up-and-coming illustrator Rockwell Kent and asked
him if he would be interested in illustrating Richard Henry Dana's "Two Years Before The Mast" he declined, but expressed
strong interest in doing Moby Dick, if he could be given complete control over the design of the book, both of the illustrator's petitions were affirmatively met and came to pass. $6250
