SMITH, Thorne. TOPPER: AN IMPROBABLE ADVENTURE. New York: Robert M.
McBride & Company, 1926. First Edition. A classic humorous ghost story,
source of both a successful film starring Cary Grant and Oscar-nominated
Roland Young as Topper as well as a television sitcom starring Leo G.
Carroll. Interestingly, Stephen Sondheim wrote 11 episodes for Topper's
first season. This copy is SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the author "To Doctor
Sanman/To help people is the/meaning of Christ." The front hinge is
cracked and has been adequately if not professionally repaired at some
time with glue. Spine darkened with some wear at head. Lacks the scarce
dustwrapper. Good copy and extremely difficult to find signed.
Tuck, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY: "A meek and
henpecked character is haunted by the ghosts of a mischievous girl and
her jealous husband, who materialise under most embarrassing
circumstances to torment him" (page 401). (#007923) $1,500
