1.  (Economics).     [Patterson, William].  PROPOSALS AND REASONS FOR CONSTITUTING A COUNCIL OF TRADE IN SCOTLAND.  By the Celebrated John Law Esq.[see below]     Glasgow: Rob. & And. Foulis. 1751.  16mo.  xx, 282,(2)pp., the final leaf are ads for Foulis publications.  Bookplate of James Robertson, LL. D.     Orig. calf, gilt spine with orange morocco label.  Spine extremities lightly chipped and wear to the hinges, which are quite sound.

$300        The second edition, first printed in Glasgow in 1701.  Although John Law appears on the title page, in fact this work was written by William Patterson.        Only 4 copies have sold at auction since 1979 (where it sold for $350 that year).  Gaskell. Foulis Press #194.
2.  (Law)     Stewart, James.     THE TRIAL OF JAMES STEWART in Aucharn in Duror of Appin, for the Murder of Colin Campbell of Glenure, Esq...... Edinburgh: Printed for     G. Hamilton and J. Balfour. 1753.  First edition.  8vo. 2 parts in 1.  (4), 288; 149,(1)pp.  With the detailed folding map of the West area of Scotland where
the murder took place.  Orig. calf, gilt spine with red morocco label.  Small chip at top of spine and hinges starting, but quite sound. Overall quite a decent.

$500        Scottish clan conflict, between clan Stewart and clan Campbell.  A notorious miscarriage of justice in Scottish legal annals.  Stewart was innocent of the murder, yet found guilty and hung        at age 29.  His body was left outdoors on the scaffold for 18 months! to warn others about clan conflicts.
