Two 1860s Stewart & MacDonald Lace Sample Books.

Founded in 1826, Stewart & MacDonald were one of the great textile and
fashion enterprises of 19th century Scotland.

The laces in one book are set against a yellow background and against
a blue back ground in the other. The effect is quite lovely.

Card covers. 7.75”x11.75” and 7”x12.5”. 10 leaves of blue coated page
stock making 20 pages, with 25 white and black lace samples and 18
edging samples tipped in on 12 of them. Covers with wear and soil,
some pages with samples removed, several samples damaged [and] an
accordion-style album showing the laces against a yellow ground
trimmed with gold and framed in white on twelve pages. Covers with
wear and soil, contents clean and good overall. Three samples lacking.

The two catalogs- $250, plus $6 shipping.
