[Samuel Butler:] Hudibras. The First and Second Parts. Written in the time of the Late Wars. Corrected and Amended, with Several Additions and Annotations. London: Printed by T.N. for John Martyn and Henry Herringman, at the Bell in St. Pauls Churchyard, and the Anchor in the lower walk of the New Exchange, 1674. [BOUND WITH:] Hudibras. The Third and last Part. Written by the Author of the First and Second Parts. London: Printed for Simon Miller, at the Sign of the Star at the West End of St. Pauls, 1678. Two works bound in one volume; 8vo (18 cm) in later half calf and marbled boards; [2], 206, 189-202, [2], 223-412 pp.; [2] 285, [3] pp.; with the terminal errata leaf. Wing B6311, ESTC R5370 and Wing B6313, ESTC R4531, respectively.

First combined edition of parts one and two, first edition of part three. Together, all three parts of Samuel Butler's epic satire in verse, one of the most popular and often reprinted works of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Externally rather rough, but internally very good: Binding with rubbing and wear, front and rear boards detached; mild general toning to the leaves, some browning to the edges, occasional light spots and stains, early owner's inscriptions to the title-pages, otherwise clean and sound.
