Paris: G. Desprez, MDCCLXX [1770]. First edition thus. Tall, thick folio (38.5x26 cm. / 15.25x10.25 in.) in full early/period French mottled cat's-paw calf, gilt-tooled boards, spine and turn-ins, marbled endpapers, all page edges gilt; [8], xx, xxxvii, [1], 934, [2] pp.; with the half-title and terminal leaf of directions to the binder; title printed in red & black, engraved vignettes, woodcut decorations.

A very nice copy indeed of a handsomely printed book, bound in an elegant, well-preserved French binding of the period. Binding with wear to the corners and spine ends, scuff marks to the rear board, cracking to the joints but both boards are secure; contents with occasional very light cockling to the leaves, a few random small spots, otherwise exceedingly clean, bright and fresh. Front paste-down with the armorial bookplate of Henricus Liber Baro de Gudenus [Heinrich von Gudenus] and the early/original bookseller's label of the freres Gay of Strasbourg; later bookplate and blind-stamp of King Lawrence Parker.
