trade book, the title poem a tribute to his father who was lost during 
World War II over Germany five months after Tate was born. A superb 
Association Copy INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front 
endpaper to a fellow poet: "To Richard Hugo,/a man and poet for 
all/reasons -- your generosity/is a rare and beautiful/quality -- you 
shall inherit/the earth--/Best,/Jim Tate/6-15-67." Minor crease to
