Wentworth Dillon, 4th Earl of Roscommon, et al: Poems by the Earl of Roscomon. To which is added, An Essay on Poetry, by the Earl of Mulgrave, now Duke of Buckingham. Together with Poems by Mr. Richard Duke. London: Printed for J. Tonson, at Shakespear's Head over-against Katharine-street in the Strand, London, MDCCXVII [1717]. First edition thus. Thick 8vo (20 cm) in early/period Cambridge-style calf; [20] + 536 pp.; woodcut head- and tail-pieces.

In addition to Roscommon's poems, this collection includes his classic Essay on Translated Verse (also in verse), Buckingham's Essay on Poetry (with a separate title-page dated 1713), and Duke's Poems upon Several Occasions, collected here for the first time. Binding well worn and rubbed, front board detached, rear joint cracked, spine beginning to split at the mid-point; contents mildly toned with occasional light staining and small spots.
