Deville, Nicolas (comp.)  HISTOIRE DES PLANTED DE L'EUROPE, et des plus Usite'es qui Viennent d'Asie, d'Afrique & d'Amerique.....Lyon: Chez Duplain. 1737. 2 volumes.  12mo.  (48),442;(2),445-866,(80)pp. Index.  Text is profusely illustrated with over 800 woodcut (mostly 3" high by 1 1/2" wide).  Cont. mottled calf, ornately gilt spines with red morocco spine labels.  Hinges are strong.  One small chip at the top left of the spine, otherwise a very attractive set.

This work, largely a study of medicinal plants from around the world including the Americas, was first compiled by Jean-Baptiste Deville in 1671.  It went through numerous editions, all after 1726 edited and compiled by the son, Nicolas Deville.  See Pritzel 10768
