BRANSON, Major L. H. /A LIFETIME OF DECEPTION Reminiscences of a
Magician/. Boards very slightly soiled; else vg/nf condition. Contents
very clean & tight. No marks to endpapers. Dust jacket has five very
small open tears, and is lightly scuffed and soiled; still in good plus
condition. Dust jacket art by Norman Jaques. Published by Robert Hale
Limited, London. 1953. 1st edition, 8vo, pp. 209.
Branson first became interested in conjuring, and stage magic, when he
was a child. In his time, he was recognized as a master of the art, and
authored a (now) very scarce title on Indian conjuring and the famous
rope trick. He was named Honorary Secretary of the Inner Magic Circle.
He was also an "old Army hand", stationed for many years in Hong Kong,
India and Mesopotamia [sic], where he enteratined many Crowned Heads and
Indian Maharajahs. Later, during World War One, when he was chief field
censor, "his knowledge of sleight at hand proved most useful in secret
intelligence work".
This is a seldom-seen book, difficult to find at any price.
