A very nice copy. $450.
* First edition. Dr. Henry Sacheverell was impeached for preaching two
sermons in which he advocated the Tory doctrines of non-resistance and
passive obedience. His punishment was unique. He was suspended from
preaching for three years. However, he was left at liberty to perform
other clerical functions, and to accept preferment during that period.
His two sermons were ordered burned by the common hangman. Such a
sentence was felt to be a triumph for him and the High-Church and Tory
party, and the news of it was received with extraordinary enthusiasm
throughout the kingdom. See The Dictionary of National Biography
XVIII:569-572. Marke, A Catalogue of the Law Collection at New York
University (1953) 1017.

stamps. Binding worn, hinges reinforced, dampstained throughout.
Numerous contemporary annotations. $175.
* First edition. Covers the period from 1657-70. While Roger North
praised Siderfin's Reports, Dolben thought it was "a book fit to be
burned; being...unworthily done by them that printed it;'" Heterick
thought this "a remarkable censure, considering that Dolben was
himself one of the Justices who 'allowed' its publication." Despite
Dolben's acerbic comment, Siderfin is considered "a reporter of much
authority." Wallace, The Reporters 2951. Sweet & Maxwell, A Legal
Bibliography of the British Commonwealth of Nations I:309(120).
