Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 7390 ) Herndon, William H. and Jesse William Weik. HERNDON'S LINCOLN:
THE TRUE STORY OF A GREAT LIFE; ETIAM IN MINIMIS MAJOR. THE HISTORY AND
PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN BY WILLIAM H. HERNDON, FOR TWENTY
YEARS HIS FRIEND AND LAW PARTNER.
Springfield: Herndon's Lincoln Publishing Company, [1921]. Reprint, Full
cloth, Duodecimos, over 650 pages. Very Good, No dust jackets.
Herndon's biography of his law partner portrays Lincoln as an ordinary
man rather than the epic hero often found in other biographies. Here is "the
subjective Lincoln
his passions, appetites
perceptions
just as he lived,
breathed, ate, and laughed." For this reason, particularly as it manifests
itself in the account of Lincoln's romance with Ann Rutledge, Herndon's
biography was very controversial when originally released in 1889. An
essential item for any serious Lincoln collection. See MONAGHAN #1049;
MATTHEWS #65; and ANGLE, SOLB pp. 28-33. This is the 3 volume edition
published in the early 1920s. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with gilt
stamped spine lettering, gilt-stamped facsimile signatures on upper boards.
All volumes are clean and sound, with minor extremity rubs and a few shallow
edge bumps. Spine lettering moderately dulled but all still legible.
