1.              Bingham on Judgments and Executions
Bingham, Peregrine [1788-1864]. The Law and Practice of Judgments and
Executions. London: Printed for J. Butterworth, 1815.  Octavo (6 x
9"). Contemporary paper boards, recently rebacked with period-style
paper spine labels, hinges reinforced. Light rubbing to boards, some
wear to board edges and corners. Early bookplate to front pastedown,
underlining to a few leaves, occasional light foxing, interiors
otherwise fresh. $250.
* First edition. Also printed in Dublin in 1815 and again in
Philadelphia in 1836 in Vol. XIII of The Law Library series. Bingham
was a barrister of the Middle Temple who is best known for his
important Reports and his editorial work on Bentham's Book of
Fallacies. He was also contributor to literary journals and respected
treatise writer. Like his other legal works, The Law and Practice of
Judgments and Executions is distinguished by its clarity and elegant

2.                Fine-Press Edition
Fiske, John [1842-1901]. The Critical Period in American History 1783-
1789. Cambridge: Printed at the Riverside Press, 1898. xxxv, 395 pp.
Frontispiece with tissue overlay, plates, illustrations. Original
quarter cloth over gray paper boards, paper spine labels, deckle
edges, several unopened signatures. Light shelfwear, some soiling and
spotting to spine. Some foxing to endleaves, interior otherwise
pristine. A very nice copy. $200.
* From a limited large-paper edition of 250 copies, this number 144. A
well-written political history of the United States from the close of
the Revolutionary War to the ratification of the Constitution by  one
of the most prominent American public intellectuals of the nineteenth
century. Generously illustrated with portraits, maps, facsimiles,
contemporary views, prints and other historic materials.

3.              Worked with David Dudley Field
Graham, David [1808-1852]. A Treatise on the Practice of the Supreme
Court of the State of New-York. New York: Published by Gould, Banks
and Co., 1832. xv, 848 pp. Octavo (5-3/4 x 9-1/2"). Contemporary
sheep, blind fillets to boards and spine, lettering piece. Rubbing
with some wear to spine ends and corners, rear joint starting at foot,
a few shallow cut marks, small early embossed owner name and initials
in ink to front board, hinges cracked but secure. Some edgewear and
toning to margins of endleaves, one has a charming early pencil
sketch. Light foxing and toning to a few leaves, interior otherwise
fresh. A nice copy. $250.
* First edition. Graham, a member of the New York bar, taught practice
and pleading from 1838 to 1842 at the institution that became New York
University Law School. He collaborated with David Dudley Field and
Alphaxad Loomis on the revision of the state's practice and procedure

4.         Standard American Treatise on Real Property
Rawle, William Henry [1823-1889]. A Practical Treatise on the Law of
Covenants for Title. Revised and Enlarged. Boston: Little, Brown and
Company, 1860. xliii, 784 pp. Octavo (6" x 9"). Contemporary law calf,
blind rules to boards, raised bands, lettering piece, fragment of
newspaper and two small blind-stamped owner names to front board. Some
rubbing with wear to head of spine, some dampspotting, front board
slightly bowed, front hinge just starting. Offsetting and some
chipping to margins of preliminaries, occasional foxing to fore-edges
of text, interior otherwise fresh. $300.
* Third edition. Pound says this was a standard treatise "much relied
upon by the legal profession" during the nineteenth century. Rawle
belonged to a family of distinguished Philadelphia jurists. After
serving in the Union army during the Civil War, he became vice-provost

5.    Thoughts on India from the Director of the East India Company
Tucker, Henry St. George [1771-1851]. Kaye, John William, Editor.
Memorials of Indian Government; Being a Selection from the Papers.
London: Richard Bentley, 1853. xii, 507 pp. Octavo (5-1/4" x 8-1/2").
Contemporary morocco, raised bands, gilt ornaments and title to spine,
gilt frames and armorial crest to from and rear boards, all edges
gilt, blind inside dentelles, marbled endpapers. A few tiny scuffs,
some rubbing with some wear to joints, spine ends and corners, light
fading to spine. "Miss Bradshaw/ with Mrs. Tuckers kind regards/ 1855"
to front endleaf, internally clean. An attractive copy. $350.
* Tucker was a Bermuda-born naval officer who later became a protege
of Sir William Jones and a director of the East India Company. This
interesting book collects Tucker's papers on the colonial government,
administrative agencies and authorities, the military establishment,
the revenue and resources of India, the judicial system, political
affairs, religion, financial matters and other topics. Highlights
include "Proposed Revision of the Judicial System" (c.1815), "Corporal
Punishment in the Native Army" (1842) and "The Dawn of the Afghan War-
The Tripartite Treaty" (1842). British Museum Catalogue (Compact

pp. Octavo (4-3/4" x 8-3/4"). Contemporary sheep, ornate blind
stamping to boards, ornate gilt title to spine. Moderate rubbing with
wear to spine ends and corners, two large scuffs to rear board with
early repairs, joints cracked but secure, some worming to front
pastedown. Occasional light foxing, early owner signatures to front
free endpaper and title page, brief annotation to a leaf, interior
otherwise clean. $200.
* Later edition of a work first published in Albany in 1821. Along
with Alexander Hamilton and Jon Lansing, Jr., Yates represented New
York at the constitutional convention. Believing that the convention
was exceeding its authority, he left it and became a leading Anti-
Federalist. Martin was a member of the committee that represented
Maryland at the convention. "The Genuine Information" was on an
important and widely circulated anti-federalist pamphlet. James
Madison thought that Yates and Martin "appear to have reported in
angry terms what they observed with jaundiced eyes." It must be added
that Yates's notes were often more detailed than Madison's. "Luther
Martin's Genuine Information is a general summary of the course of the
Debates with a running criticism on each of the Constitution's
