Full cloth, Oblong folio, xiv, 297 pages, color and black & white
illustrations, maps. Very Good in a Near Fine Dust Jacket, Jacket in Mylar
protector.
      Over one hundred views of Washington, DC, which were originally
produced in the 19th century as engravings, aquatints, and lithographs. Most
are reproduced here in color, and each is accompanied by excerpts from
contemporary published works written by men and women from all walks of
life. Their reactions to the city vary widely, the pictures and words
together give a reliable impression of how the Capital has been viewed
throughout its history. Good bibliography. A lavish coffee table book. Bound
in light grey cloth over boards with black and gilt-stamped spine. Book is
crisp and free of prior ownership marks, but top fore corners of both boards
bumped with related rippling to same area of textblock.    $60.00
