For Sale from Up-Country Letters, South Lake Tahoe, California:

 

Ticknor, William D.   Autograph Letter, signed, Boston, Jany. 16, 1838.  To a Mr. (H.?) Howe, Esq.  "Dear Sir, If you can order from the annexed list (no list present), please send me by Waggon or Stage, 25 Days Algebra, last edn.;  12 Bakewell's Geology, 4 Silliman's Chemistry.  Yours Respy,  W.D. Ticknor."  Hezekiah Howe was a publisher in New Haven whose imprint appeared on all three of the above.  William D. Ticknor was a publisher who also had a book shop; he later added James T. Fields to the imprint.  Folded for mailing.  Ticknor has also signed the obverse.  A fine letter.    $80
