Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 7168 ) [Lysons, Daniel, Sir, (1816-1898)]. DRILL AND RIFLE INSTRUCTION
FOR THE CORPS OF VOLUNTEERS, BY AUTHORITY OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR
WAR - FIFTH EDITION.
London: W. Clowes and Sons, 1859. 5th Edition, Full cloth, Duodecimo, iv, 68
pages, black & white diagrams, tables, cuts. Fine.
A distillation of the more complex system of drill from the British
Army's Field Exercise book, prepared especially for volunteer soldiers who
were understood to be "...much occupied with their ordinary pursuits, and
who consequently will not be able to spare many hours for drill."
Nevertheless it packs in a wealth of information on drill, musketry,
skirmishing, etc. Even includes a section on bugle calls. Illustrated
throughout with cuts and 9 plates. Several blank forms for use in target
practice, musketry drills, etc. bound in at rear. One fold-out. Bound in
drab green blind-stamped cloth over boards with yellow endpapers.
Contemporary owner name penned at top of title page, mild age toning to
pages, minor edge bumps to boards. Hinges and binding solid. Very well
preserved. $125.00
