TWELFTH, AND THIRTEENTH EDITIONS  [ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA, 11TH, 12TH, AND
13TH].
New York/London: Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., 1910-11, 1922, 1926. Full
cloth, Quartos, , Color & b&w plates, illustrations, maps. .
      The illustrious 11th Edition of the Britannica together with the 12th
and 13th editions. The 11th is the most scholarly edition of the Britannica,
with contributions by over 1,500 authors writing in their fields of
expertise. They just don't make them like this anymore. The need for a 12th
Edition so soon after the 11th was primarily due to the events of World War
I. This is the nice large, quarto-size set bound in dark green cloth over
boards. The first 16 books constitute the 11th and 12th editions with their
respective indexes and are in the so-called "New Form," wherein each book in
the set contains two volumes of the encyclopedia. The 13th edition is in 3
separate volumes for a total of 19 volumes for the three editions. The set
is uniformly bound in green cloth over boards with gilt stamped spine
lettering; light green border, title, and crest on upper boards. All volumes
show light extremity rubs, occasional silverfish nibbles, and mild extremity
bumps. Inside there is some foxing and scattered insect pocks to endpapers,
and the occasional crease or chipped corner. All in all still a sound set of
the last great encyclopedia.    $650.00
