[De Quincy, Thomas] - CONFESSIONS OF AN ENGLISH OPIUM-EATER. London:
Printed for Taylor & Hessey, Fleet Street. 1823. Second edition. 12mo. De
Quincey (1785-1859) was a laudanum addict, this autobiographical work is
the first to depict the ecstasies and horrors of opium usage. Perhaps the
most famous work on opium addiction, it has had a vast influence on
literature since it’s initial publication in the London Magazine in 1821.
Bound in full crushed black morocco, gilt tooled spine with raised bands,
gilt borders, inner gilt dentilles. All edges gilt. Stamp from the Victoria
League Overseas Library on rear free endpaper, front endpaper neatly glued
down (covering what appears to be a bookplate). Wants half-title leaf and
ads at rear. Mild foxing to rear endpapers. Aside from these faults, a fine
copy.

Strahan, T. Lowndes, T. Caslon, W. Nicoll, S. Bladon, and G. Kearsly.
MDCCLXXVII (1777). Octavo, 5.5 x 8 inches, 96 pp, period half-leather over
marbled boards, frontispiece and vignette titlepage, music scores
throughout the text, A touch of foxing (spotting). binding slightly rubbed
and with a 1.5-inch tall waterstrike on the spine & rear panel (see scan),
clean, a very good copy. An early reprint, this work was first issued in 1728.

KELMSCOTT PRESS. Original Bookplate printed by William Morris at the
Kelmscott Press. Undated, circa mid 1890's. Bookplate measures 3-1/4 inches
square, it is tipped on by the toip edge to a pice of gray paper, 5 x 6
inches. Bookplate states simply KELMSCOTT - WILLIAM MORRIS - Ex-Libris
Harry Alfred Fowler. 
Guaranteed the genuine article, not a reproduction of any sort. A nice
piece of Kelmscott Press Ephemera.
