Illustrated with 33 full-page copper-engraved plates. 4to. Bound in full
contemporary mottled calf with marbled endpapers, the spine with extensive
gilt panel ornaments. Endpapers and flyleaves heavily stained, probably
from improper leather treatment, edges and corners worn, some cracks to
hinges, but holding nicely, contents and plates clean. Actually not a bad

plates. Small 4to. Original publisher's green cloth with elaborate gilt
spines including pictorial vignettes and with large vignettes of birds in
gilt on the upper covers and in blind on the lower covers. Bindings have
wear to extremes, but they are in very nice bright condition, contents
mostly clean and bright, some moderate foxing. A most desirable

400 color plates, each plate accompanied by a sheet of text. Plates laid
loose in portfolios. Portfolios of quarter dark blue morocco gilt, with
linen boards and silk ties, the covers with a metal Smithsonian medallion
inset on each, each portfolio housed in a heavy card box. Library accession
number on the table of contents in each volume, else fine. Nissen 2094.
