Emerson, R.W. (Ralph Waldo).    English Traits.   Boston: Phillips, Sampson, 1856.  First edition (Myerson A24.1.a).  Original cloth, gilt, decorated in blind. With the ownership signature of William Green dated August 14, 1856. Probably published August 6, this is a very early copy.  Green's middle initial roughly erased, he signed again on the rear pastedown, that one almost entirely erased. Spine ends beautiful, a little rubbing to bottom fore-corners.  Very slightly cocked.  A Very Good copy.     $300
