We offer for Sale:

[23643] Watson, James D. THE DOUBLE HELIX: A PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF THE
DISCOVERY OF THE STRUCTURE OF DNA. New York: Atheneum, 1968. xvi, 226
pp., [6], [1]. Illus. with b/w photos. 8vo. Blind stamped blue cloth
with gilt spine titles (hardback). First edition. First printing.

Watson's frank and uncompromising description of one of the great
events of modern science reveals the nitty-gritty of scientific
discovery and the frantic effort of Crick and Watson along with
Maurice Wilkins, to not only uncover the basis of life, and hence
change biological science forever, but almost as importantly, to beat
Linus Pauling to the prize, which they did, and for which they
received the Nobel Prize in 1962. "Like nothing else in literature,
it gives one the feel of how creative science really happens," C. P.
Snow. A near fine copy, one or two leaves still unopened, with some
foxing to fore-edge as usual, in a bright, near fine, intact dust
jacket (not priced clipped and no tears) with faint rubbing at the
lower edge. An excellent copy of this major work. Images available.
$400.00
