SMITH, Albert & John Leech. THE MONTH. A View of Passing Subjects and
Manners, Home and Foreign, Social and General. London: Published at the
Offices of "The Month", No. 3, Whitefriars Street. July-December, 1851.

1st edition. 6 issues, all published. A complete set of this humourous
Victorian monthly magazine, bound together in half red morocco and marbled
boards, spine ruled & titled in gilt. Illustrated throughout, mostly by
Leech. Social humour & commentary, important as this was the year of the
Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace. Frontispiece and title leaf for
each issue bound in, but no covers or ads. Some foxing to the
frontispieces, at times heavy. Neat bookplate of William Powell on inner
front cover, underneath which is a sticker with the handwritten note: From
the Library of the late J. Whittaker Ellis, Bt. Bought at Sotheby's Sale 31
March 1913." Above this is a note in pencil (presumably from a bookseller)
that says "Rare 20/".

Recently neatly rebacked, some rubbing to boards, one signature slightly
proud (but not loose). A very good copy.

$400.00 USD
