Some of these are repeats, because I misunderstood the book. I have listed 
the Arabic New Testament before this. but always as lacking preliminary 
pages in Latin. Guess what, there are not supposed to be any, and the 
entire pagination is present and accounted for in Arabic. Most, though are 
new this time. I have listed the first translation for the Toba Batak, into 
the language understood only by Magical wonder workers [Bomoh or dusun] and 
not by the general public. This is the first translation into Romanized 
letters. Unlike the many manuscript portions of the Bible offered for sale 
and dated back into the 18th and 19th century, and made in the last few 
years, I do have a dated, printed Bible in Amharic.  The only datable 
Amharic manuscripts are those with a pristine and complete provenance. 
Anyhow, here they are.


1.	BRAYTON, D. L.: QUESTIONS ON MATTHEW with explanatory notes and 
practical remarks. In Pwo Karen. By D. L. Brayton, etc. [With the text of 
Matthew.] Tavoy : Karen Mission Press, 1852. pp. 443. ; 8o. Original green 
cloth, repaired near the crown of the spine, paper with the name Brayton 
glued across  the spine. Unnoted in Darlow and Moule, although it contains 
the text of Matthew. In 1852, the text was also printed together with that 
of Mark and is Darlow & Moule 5924. This is the first book noted in that 
language. Found only at the BL at COPAC, not noted at OCLC/RLIN. A Very 
Good copy. $750.00

board and Fr. Fr. EP. This copy has the complete pagination given above. It 
is still in its original vellum. It is a lovely copy with a little browning 
to the last two leaves and intermittently within. $6750.00

3.	[NEW TESTAMENT] NOMMENSEN, J. L. ; JOHANNSEN, P.[Trans.] : PADAN NA 
IMBARU NI TUHANTA DJESUS CHRISTUS. Elberfeld Translations of the New 
Testament and the Psalms: For the British and Foreign Bible Society printed 
by R.L. Friderichs & Co.,,  New ed. : 1885 : 527, [1], 142, [2] p. ; 16 cm. 
Toba Batak, here printed in Roman letter forms. This is the First Edition 
in Roman letter, the first which a large number of Batak learned to read. 
The other forms having been legible only to Magico-medical specialists.The 
Toba Batak live on  an island and around the banks of a huge volcanic lake 
of that name in central Sumatra. Darlow & Moule; 2022. OCLC 3 Locs. in the

4.	P., F. G.: LESSONS FOR THE WILDERNESS. Thoughts on some typical 
incidents of Israel's deliverance and pilgrimage. By F. G. P. Wellington, 
N.Z. : Bible, Book and Tract Depot, [1883.]  75.Pp. ; 8o. Written on the 
long sea voyage from the UK to Australia, the bible is used as a source for 
support as the author went into the danger inherent in being a missionary 
among as yet unwesternized and apparently savage people. Unnoted at the NUC 
or OCLC, at COPAC only at the BL. Near fine in original watered silk, gilt 
title on front board. $350.00

5.	PETTIS, OLIVE GRAVES, MRS.: THE HISTORICAL LIFE OF JESUS OF NAZARETH, 
and extracts from the Apostolic age. BOUND WITH; Further communications ... 
Publication: Providence, A. Crawford Greene, Year: 1870-1871 2 v. in 1. 
front. (inserted albumen portrait) 21 cm. Vol. 2 has the title: FURTHER 
COMMUNICATIONS CONCERNING THE HISTORICAL LIFE OF JESUS OF NEZARETH, and 
extracts from the Apostolic age. ("Erratum" slip inserted before the 
2nd  t.-p.)/ Also published with title: Autobiography by Jesus Christ. This 
would be called by the initiated inspired writing, and by the uninitiated 
automatic writing. In either case it is fascinating. OCLC locates 4 copies 
of this First Edition [CUT, RBN, PRV, UWO] [the work was reprinted twice, 
once after the death of Mrs. Pettis].  Original cloth, gilt title on front 
board, spine repaired, Very Good. $850.00

6.	PLATT, THOMAS PELL (Ed.):[BIBLE IN AMHARIC] Evangelia Sancta: sub 
auspiciis D. Asselini rerum gallicarum apud Aegyptios procuratoris in 
linguam amharicum vertit Abu-Rumi Habessinus. London, Impressit R. Watts, 
1824. 1824 4to. Lvs 156. Title page printed in Amharic in red and black. 
Printed throughout with headings in read quite beautifully. With titles in 
Latin and Amharic. The first printed part of the Bible in 
Amharic.Contemporary calf, covers ornamented in blind, backstrip with 5 
false raised bands, label of black Mro., gilt. Probably the first 
translation into Amharic of any part of the Bible.: "Tr. into Amharic by 
Abu Rumi, an Abyssinian monk, under the supervision of M. Asselin de 
Cherville, the French Consul at Cairo. The tr. was made from the Arabic 
corrected by the Vulgate, with collateral help from the Hebrew, Greek and 
Syriac. Ed. by T.P. Platt (1798-1852).., assisted by S. Lee.., and W. 
Jowett.. ". Zenker BO i,1818; Darlow & Moule no. 1556. A Very Good

7.	[RAND, REV. SILAS T.]: THE  GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT MATTHEW IN THE 
MICMAC LANGUAGE Charlottetown, G.T. Haszard, 1853. 12mo,  188 [+2]Pp. There 
are some remainders of early Abenaki texts, but this one is rare. The 
Micmac lived in the vicinity of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The 
two pages at back contain a hymn unnoted in Pilling, OW Pilling 3179C 
[revised.], but Sabin gets it wrong.  Original cloth, hinges broken but 
still solidly attached. $1175.00

First Edition. A number of interesting vignettes, some of which carry on 
folk tradition going back to pagan, Viking, animal art. Classic compendium 
of Swedish church history, through the chronicle of each bishopric, by the

Largely lacking from American research libraries.Original vellum, minor 
spine flaws, Otherwise a Very Good copy. $775.00

bookplate of H. S. Ashbee. A Very Good copy. Darlow and Moule  6851, OCLC,
